Alex Hurst is a theatre director, facilitator, and writer who trained on the Directing MFA at Birkbeck, University of London and the Jerwood Assistant Directorship at the Young Vic. He has honed his skills working with some of the UK’s most respected theatre-makers. He is currently Associate Director on Nadia Fall’s production of Abigail’s Party on tour and in the West End and previous to this, Alex was the Jerwood Assistant Director on Entertaining Mr. Sloane at the Young Vic.

As a Director, Alex is interested in how genre, design and visual storytelling can be used to create total theatre experiences that both provoke and entertain audiences. He is particularly fascinated by the cinematic, queering narratives, the potential of speculative fiction in theatre and the fine line between horror and comedy.

Alongside this, Alex is the Associate Director on the Rutgers Conservatoire Design & Production course at Shakespeare’s Globe and has has curated workshops in directing, acting, and design with the Lyric Hammersmith, London Southbank University, and UAL.
