Alex Hurst
Alex Hurst is a theatre director, facilitator, and writer. He has honed his skills working with some of the UK’s most respected theatre-makers in theatres across the country and in the West End. Alex is currently the Jerwood Assistant Director on Nadia Fall's Entertaining Mr. Sloane at the Young Vic and Associate Director of the Rutgers Conservatoire Design & Production course at Shakespeare’s Globe. He holds an MFA in Theatre Directing from Birkbeck, University of London.
An accomplished assistant director and workshop facilitator, Alex has created workshops in directing, acting, and design with the Lyric Hammersmith, London Southbank University, and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.
As a director, Alex is interested in how genre, design and visual storytelling can be used to create total theatre experiences that both provoke and entertain audiences. He is particularly fascinated by the cinematic, queering narratives, and the potential of speculative fiction in theatre.
Alex is currently co-writing a new play that uses the framework established by Akira Kurosawa's film Rashōmon to explore the ghost story through multiple perspectives.
